  • Tile by tile, inches by inches, she mops, hours on end to get the whole place done. And the area's never gonna get fully spick. Someone's gonna walk all over again, with grit brought in from varied places where their feet have tread.

  • Two successful weeks working in Peru, done and dusted! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Ayni [Eye-Knee] ⁣⁣
That is name of the core value of the Andean people. It encompasses the meaning of: teamwork, community, helping each other. So simple right? ⁣⁣
⁣
For example: An entire community will get together to help farm the land of one family, and then they will switch and farm another family’s land. Instead of managing all of your own responsibilities and obligations, you can depend on your community to share and help out.⁣
⁣⁣
This core value exists in many communities around the world that I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in. In each country the name changes, but the emphasis on community is the same. This is one of the reasons why I continue to live this life the way I do; the reason why I prioritize traveling and living in different cultures. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
To travel is to widen your perspective of humanity and the capabilities of to which living happily is possible; even when you don’t have western comforts. ⁣⁣
I’ve never felt this sense of community, AYNI, growing up in the city. But when I travel and reside briefly with local people, I am filled with this sense of love, togetherness and a shared humanity that is otherwise, hard to find. Despite class and language barriers, you can almost guarantee to be treated like family.

Frantically grasping, protecting what once used to be mine. Only to realize the nature of time lies in it's fleeting finality. A moment in the present reminds me of this reality. Forward and onward, they always say. But how can I when flashbacks of yesterday continue to ricrochet. .

  • Perhaps it is exactly the absence of decision making, the very lack of options itself that makes airplane travel a deeply comforting experience for a temperament usually tied up with ephemeral notions of “what next,” and then “what if” and “how”... There is usually some level of stress, of general hustle involved immediately before and after strapping into your seat on a plane but once safely cocooned in your seat there is only peace and presence.
In a world that is obsessed with avoiding uncomfortable situations, economy air travel is the ultimate exercise of here and now.
For that time, you are forced to exist, exactly as you are, regardless of preference, with your ailments and woes, with limited distraction, in a sea of strangers similarly confronting their own state of existence.
When the seatbelt sign gets switched off after landing, I watch in wonder the swiftness with which people spring to their feet to make an exit. What’s the hurry? Where to now? 🕰 #travelreflections #airplane

  • You know those places that just stick with you over time? The ones that you can’t shake or forget? ✨

Maybe you do.
Maybe you don’t. ✨

But as for me, there are “special spots” all around the world that continue to live brightly in my memory. THIS is one of those places. 🏔

The Loveland Pass in Colorado may not seem extremely special to a lot of people. However, it’s been a dream location in my heart ever since Justin and I ‘accidentally’ stumbled upon it back in 2013. He feels the same. 🇺🇸 So, we knew that we wanted to return to this place where we once sat down on a rock and took in the power of the mountains - but we even weren’t sure where it was! After we wrapped up our tour in the Rocky Mountain National Park, we set a course for Breckenridge and searched the map for potential passes that could take us to our sweet spot in our memories. The Loveland Pass, as it turns out, was on the way... and as soon as I saw the small parking lot just beyond the main lookout, I knew we had found it. 🚐

We parked our camper van, let our fussy baby work her tantrum out, flung open the van doors and rested, read and relaxed in this mountaintop escape. 💛

What lengths have you gone to in order to rediscover a special destination?

  • Meditations on an abundant frame of mind. .
.
I’ve been examining my understanding and relationship to abundance lately, and it’s been revelatory. Still very much in it, but one notable aspect of being on retreat is the slowing down, the getting still for long enough to remember the truth of my fullness, and chuck the falsehood that there is somewhere else I need to get to, some other way I need to be, or something else I need to do in order to be worthy of my birthright: to be free, whole and complete. Every time I remember this, I’m a bit overcome by how foreign it feels in my bones to embody these truths, yet my practice lately has been to richly imagine this new territory of the grace and ease that arises when I intentionally cultivate an experience of fullness within me, a faith and deep trust that I am and have all that I could ever truly require and more. .

  • DMZ, part 1
.
Borders, as the introductory video at the @real_dmz_project exhibition affirms, can be challenged, penetrated, transgressed. The Demilitarised Zone, perhaps better than anywhere else, illustrates this. The DMZ is not a border but a zone, 4 kilometres wide. A zone, like a border, is a place of a liminality. However, instead of a flat line arbitrarily drawn on a map, a zone is three-dimensional, which attributes to it the qualities of exchange, fluidity, and métissage. The DMZ exhibition considers the zone from two main perspectives: the unique natural biodiversity that has evolved in this uninhabited area and artistic imaginings of what the DMZ could be in future. It allows you to understand the DMZ beyond the political press photo calls.
.
A former-station-turned-cultural-venue is a very apt place for such an exhibition. Stations too are zones where different lines interconnect, networks overlap, and people interact. Perhaps more profoundly, one of the original lines that passed through the station ran up to Sinuiju, a city near the Chinese border, linking north and south, Korea to the rest of Asia and beyond. Ahn Kyu-chul’s 2019 Peace Bell, made from the metal of a dismantled guard post, welcomes you to the exhibition and offers hope that trains will traverse the whole Korean Peninsula again one day.
.
When we return to Seoul next month, we’ll be taking a tour to the DMZ.

  • If it makes sense to you, just do it. Especially when you're young and have time.

I live my life without any regrets. In my youth, I've traveled to all the places I ever wanted to go and have done all the things I've always wanted to do. Living abroad. Fighting for honor. Doing what feels right.

Don't be afraid to take risks. When you're old and unable to do as much, you'll look back on fond memories and smile.

I wanted to share a picture of me when I was on my first trip to Macau 13 years ago. I can't believe how young I looked.

Where have you been in your youth?

  • Wakin up to this
Evenyday.

I wanna write something about struggling and about changing your standards .

I guess this is exactly why I love to travel: I know I will be struggling, and I know that the struggle will challenge my standards, allowing me to be critical to my own norms and to grow as a human .

By challenging my own standards, I’ll be able to see through the societal programming and create myself once more. Free of toxins and added colours, you could call it 😉 .

Have you ever felt like you’re floating through life? There’s so much going on that you just wanna AFK. Then you’d have to pull yourself back to the ground and question what your purpose is. I’ve learnt to take it easy and trust the process. Floating ain’t all bad anyway. It’s during travels like these under the blue sky or under the stars where floating allows you to take in what’s in front of your eyes without trying to dissect everything and your heart would slowly feel. God has his way of revealing his plans, just trust the process. .

  • Be sure to scroll, to see all of the beautiful scenes captured on our drive North over the past few days. We left Flagstaff on Monday morning and drove through Arizona, Utah, Oregon and Washington. With any luck, we’ll be crossing the Canadian border today! We’ve seen everything from the beautiful deserts of the Southwest, to snow in Utah, and the GORGEOUS green hills, mountains, rivers and trees throughout Oregon and Washington! We drove through Eastern Oregon which we had never done before and it was truly a sight to behold, incredible beauty. You can really see the effects of having had so much rain this year. The desert was alive and the PNW is lush! It’s been a drive to remind us what we truly love about traveling and being able to experience these incredible landscapes, new people and all of the adventure that comes with it!! Won’t lie though, we are pretty stoked about finding our way home to Alaska. They’ve been having an amazing Spring so far, it’ll feel good to ground ourselves at our home, but we also have high hopes for a few wicked Alaska Adventures!! .
