  • This may be my first ever selfie on here. I can never got the hang of it really. But, the reason for it is to support perhaps one of the most important causes in the world right now. .
.
We know our forests, specifically the Amazon rainforest, hold most of the carbon existing on earth, allowing us to live. It is also home to many tribes and their people. Right now, MILLIONS of acres are at risk of deforestation in the rainforest for the purpose of "progress" aka development and plunder of natural resources. We've heard it all before. And yet we still have to fight. .
.
The Waorani people specifically are taking action against this attack on their homeland. They've already gained almost 400,000 signatures in protest, as well as showing up in court to fight and at the UN for help. Go see @amazonfrontlines to follow and add your support. .
.
Because the problems we face today don't know country borders. They are global. Their fight must be ours. So I'm going into this weekend with intention. To enjoy the little miracles of the forest I call home and indulge in all it offers, and yet also to remember that it is sacred but not permanent. Always be ready to protect what can't protect itself. ✌💜

  • The Waorani won the appeal - YAY!!! This marks a game-changing victory for the Amazon and a historic precedent for indigenous rights. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🌎 .

You may have seen my post a couple of weeks ago about the #waoraniresistance It’s so exciting when actions like these WORK, and when you get to hear the good news on the other end. The impact here is monumental. With last week’s court ruling, the Ecuadorian government’s attempt to sell 500,000 acres of ancestral Waorani forest to oil companies is indefinitely BLOCKED. 🙏🏻 .

But now is not the time to rest on our laurels, we have to keep the momentum going. The verdict is final but now the Waorani need to make sure the judgment is enforced. Ecuador’s Executive Branch has vowed to continue drilling in the Amazon “no matter what” to pay off mounting debts, so it’s up to all of us to keep up the pressure and turn the verdict into action.

Please help them in this movement by sharing the news and inviting your friends to join the fight! And swipe right to read the Warrant people’s genuine gratitude towards our help. ❤️🌎

  • Amazon Frontlines is an international group of human rights lawyers, environmental activists, forestry specialists, environmental health scientists, filmmakers, journalists, anthropologists, and farmers living and work in the western Amazon. Their mission is to support the struggles of indigenous peoples to defend their rights to land, life and cultural survival in the Amazon Rainforest and protect the territory. Wilderness. Primary rainforest. Biodiversity hotspot. Carbon sink. National park. Oil concession. These are all phrases used by journalists, scientists, activists, oil companies and governments to describe the ancestral territory of the Kofan, Secoya, Siona and Waorani peoples of Ecuador’s northern Amazon.
In the Amazon rainforest, indigenous territory provides food, medicine, and shelter; harbors stories and history; and forms the basis for indigenous cosmovision, spirituality, and education. The physical and cultural survival of indigenous peoples depends upon vast, healthy and well protected territories! Indigenous peoples have the right to protect their rainforest homes from any and all external threats – whether from oil, logging, industrial agriculture, roads, or colonization. Amazon Frontine is committed to supporting the struggle of indigenous peoples in the Amazon to live well and healthy in their rainforest territories. What are you fighting for? @amazonfrontlines #waoraniresistance #rainforest

  • This is the movement that resulted in the court siding with the Waorani People preserving half a million acres from oil drilling. •
This is a #repost from @amazonfrontlines via @PhotoAroundApp
One of the most biodiverse places on earth - in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest - is under imminent threat from oil drilling. This is the home of the indigenous Waorani people, who have protected their ancestral forest lands for thousands of years – and now, on the eve of their high-stakes trial against the Ecuadorian government to stop an oil auction, they need to show authorities that the whole world is watching!

Watch and share this powerful video about the Waorani people’s historic struggle in protection of their rainforest home and our climate, and sign the Waorani’s petition to support indigenous rights: bit.ly/waoaction

  • UPDATE to those of you that signed the petition: the #waoraniresistance won, setting a historic precedent for indigenous rights and protecting 1/2 million acres from drilling. “We called on the world to support us and they did. We told them the government wasn’t listening to us, and hundreds of thousands of people made our voices heard. Thank you to all our friends around the world for joining our fight.” - Nemonte Nenquimo, Waorani leader. Seven other indigenous nations have 7 million acres currently in question re drilling so stay tuned. 👊

Fiumi, foreste, animali, piante e fiori, sole e pioggia. Alberi.

🎉Congratulations on this amazing image. 🌹🎉🎈 Today, Waorani leaders gave a symbolic press conferece outside Ecuador’s first oil well explaining what this historic victory means for the Waorani People and neighbouring indigenous nations across the Ecuadorian Amazon: “The court’s final ruling states very clearly that our territory is our decision and that our forest is not for sale!" said Nemonte Nenquimo Waorani leader. “This is a victory for all indigenous nations that have been manipulated and deceived by the government, and whose rights have been violated. The Government has to listen to us and respect our decisions, and the lives of all Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon.“ Now, let’s build on the Waorani's precedent-setting victory in order to defend 7 million acres more of rainforest under threat from oil extraction in the Ecuadorian Amazon!

Waorani Women travel from the Amazon to the United Nations' headquarters in Geneva after winning their historic court victory in Ecuador!

Waorani leaders Nemonte Nenquimo and Omanca Enquiri will be speaking at the UN over the next days, denouncing the Ecuadorian government’s systematic violation of indigenous peoples rights, before the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. "I have come to the capital of the world to make sure that my grandchildren live free, with clean rivers and forests”, affirms Omanca.

• @amazonfrontlines: “Breaking: Game-changing win for the Amazon!

The Waorani have defeated the Ecuadorian government on appeal, blocking the sale of 500,000 acres of their ancestral lands from oil drilling. “We have shown the world that life is more important than oil!” said Nemonte Nenquimo, Waorani leader. “And united we can protect our way of life, the Amazon rainforest, and our planet from destruction.” Now’s the time to keep the momentum going, and turn this precedent into a victory for neighboring indigenous nations, who are defending 7 million acres of forest threatened by oil in the Amazon.

  • An incredible win for the Amazon. The Waorani have succeeded in protecting over 500,000 acres of rainforest from oil drilling. Proud to support the #WaoraniResistance.
#Regram #RG @amazonfrontlines: Today, Waorani leaders gave a symbolic press conference outside Ecuador’s first oil well explaining what this historic victory means for the Waorani People and neighboring indigenous nations across the Ecuadorian Amazon: “The court’s final ruling states very clearly that our territory is our decision and that our forest is not for sale!" said Nemonte Nenquimo Waorani leader.

The Waorani people defeat the Ecuadorian government in a landmark ruling that blocks the sale of 180000 hectares of their ancestral territory destined for oil exploitation. "We are demonstrating to the world that life is more important than oil," said Nemonte Nenquimo, Waorani leader. "Together we can protect our way of life, the Amazon rainforest and prevent the destruction of our planet earth." We must keep the moment alive, we must turn this precedent into a victory for the neighboring nationalities who are protecting 3 million hectares of Amazonian forest threatened by oil exploitation.

  • This is Opi, one of the young Waorani leaders showing a path forward for the their people.
There are so many stories to tell. Stories that might be too deep for social media to hold right now. Stories that make you laugh and cry at the same time.
But we need to tell these stores. We need to find our voice and own it. Our history.
That’s what this victory means. That’s what Opi is doing. He’s making history.
