  • Irish Beauty NEWS: #GlobalWellnessDay offers free wellness experiences

This year's Global Wellness Day (GWD) took place on Saturday 8th June, with numerous events held across Ireland.
This marks the international event's eighth year, which last year saw over 100 countries celebrating at over 4,000 locations. Events included complimentary wellness activities such as yoga, Pilates, dance, hiking, and Zumba, along with workshops related to diet, nutrition, healthy eating and happiness therapies such as laughter, breathing, art and mindfulness, and beauty.

The event was founded by Aksoy Belgin, who dreamt of taking the awareness of wellness to every corner of the globe, with the slogan ‘One Day Can Change Your Whole Life.' Aksoy is founder of Turkey's Richmond Nua Wellness Spa, and believes that wellness shouldn't be a luxury maintaining the initiative's ethos that GWD events are free and open to the public.

Global Wellness Day's manifesto is simple:
1. Walk for an hour
2. Drink more water
3. Don't use plastic bottles
4. Eat healthy food
5. Do a good deed
6. Have a family dinner with your loved ones
7. Go to sleep at 10pm

This has inspired an international network of over 86 GWD Ambassadors, including Fiona Collins, Global Wellness Ambassador Ireland, who is Spa & Fitness Manager at The Brehon & Angsana Spa, Kerry.

  • Happy Monday! Let's kick off this week by talking about cosmetics & claims! #💄
⁣
On my lips, I have on a raspberry shade called "fly" from @tartecosmetics. It is part of the "tarteist quick dry matte lip paint," which is dermatologist tested and long wear. I love this line of lip paints because it's easily to apply, lasts all day, and is transfer-proof! ⏳⁣
⁣
Did you notice what I just did there? No? Ok, I'll tell you—I just made some claims! 🗣️ "Dermatologist tested," "long wear," "transfer-proof," "lasts all day" are all cosmetic claims! ⁣
⁣
In the US, cosmetics are regulated by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration). 👩‍⚖️ The FDA monitors cosmetics to make sure they are safe and compliant. Although the FDA does not have pre-market authority over cosmetics, they can take action against products AFTER they are on the market. This is commonly done in the form of warning letters against brands that make unapproved drug claims for products marketed as cosmetics. 📃⁣
⁣
When it comes to claims, the FDA works in conjunction with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to ensure claims are truthful and not misleading. While the FDA oversees cosmetic labeling claims, the FTC regulates advertising claims. Together the FDA and FTC monitor products on the market to ensure claims are properly substantiated through ingredient based research, product testing and consumer questionnaires. ⚖️⁣
⁣
Next time you're scrolling on IG and an ad pops up, see if you can spot the cosmetic claims! 🧐 ⁣

  • SKINCARE BASICS
.
.
I realize some people have your basic skincare regimen down to a T. If you're like me, you have about two to five products in each category. I don't count though- I work in the industry. This is for the lot of you that washes your face with dove soap and only believes in sunscreen if you're on a vacation at the beach. I'm not a judgy person by nature, but I'm secretly judging you. 👀 There are just things in life we can't skip or there are consequences. Our houses depreciate if we don't keep up the maintenance, cars wont operate if our fluids are low, bodies can't function without proper nutrition, excersize is vital for blood flow, and our skin being our largest organ turns to crap if we do not take care of it. So, this is for my people ready to take care of business. 💓
.
.
Cleanse- Your cleanser should be the first and most basic step in your routine. Find a cleanser based on your skin type. Always double cleanse to remove any makeup, pollution, oil, and build up on the skin. Cleansing should start at the begining and end of your day before any other step in your skincare regimen.
.
.
Exfoliate- Our dead cells on the outer most layer of the skin naturally shed. Exfoliation is typically done 2-3 times a week depending on the kind of your exfoliator. Its purpose is to speed up skin cell turnover, reveals healthier smoother skin, and keep congested skin down (blackheads, breakouts).
.
.
Nourish- These typically come in serum form and are customizable based on your skincare concerns. Whether it be an antioxidant, facial oils, growth factors, retinoids, peptides, etc., these operate by giving the skin nutrients for optimal functionality, improvement, and protection.
.
.
Hydrate- Always Hydrate internally and externally. This means drinking plenty of water to nourish our cells so they can function properly. Choose a moisturizer based on your skin type for day and night use.
.
.
Protect- Use sunscreens everyday over your moisturizer whether the sun is out or not. Sunscreen in makeup is not sufficient enough for protection. Look for sunscreens that are "Broad Spectrum" of 30 SPF or higher.

  • 💭 I once listened to a podcast which said people are only able to fully focus on a task for 52 minutes and then we should break for 10 mins, think about nothing (as in daydream or just stare at the sky 🏖️🌅) and then go back to the task at hand.

Well, I've tried this method and it's worked for me so I thought I'd pass the tip to you. 😉

I'm crushing my Get Shit ✔️ list! What's on your 'Get Shit Done' list this week? Share it with me in a comment below and let's commit to making it happen! Yes!! 👇👇

  • IMPRESSIONS COUNT • First impressions are formed in mere seconds. What impressions do you think your salon makes?
•
Every time your client comes back, it is just as important. They hope to see a clean salon and a friendly, attentive staff of hair professionals.

I hope your salon is leaving impression that you’re hoping for.

  • All Hair & Compounds extensions are 100% Indian Remy and ethically sourced from temples near the south of India. Every day and night, pilgrims (people who journey to a sacred place for religious reasons) donate their hair in return for good luck, hope and blessing from the Hindu gods. The temples where our hair comes from is dedicated to one of the incarnations of Vishnu, one of three supreme Hindu deities. Check out this video to see how our hair is sourced!

  • Green leafy vegetables come with rich antioxidant levels, which can protect your skin from the damages caused by smoke, pollution as well as UV rays. They can also provide you effective results against premature wrinkles as well as skin cancer. The antioxidants that are present in the leafy greens veggies will help you to get rid of the pimples and scars to heal faster. Therefore, when you are preparing an acne diet, make sure you include more leafy vegetables and foods in it.

  • So, Tatcha bites the acquisition bullet and goes to Unilever in a $500 million deal – becoming one of the most expensive beauty brands the latter has acquired. I am always conflicted when a brand goes the conglomerate route. On one side, of course, conglomerates have a lot more money to invest in the brand for expansion. But doesn’t that often come at a cost? Like quality of products?
.
Tatcha, according to me, has had some of the most beautiful formulations in the beauty market. Impeccable quality, with the best ingredients, has been their hallmark and Vicky Tsai is unrelenting on this front. She also takes her time to research and develop a product. The Essence, for example, took SEVEN years for Tatcha scientists to formulate.
.
Would a conglomerate have this kind of patience? Would Vicky still remain involved? And will Unilever do one of my favorite skincare brands justice? I have never really associated Unilever with prestige beauty, though it does hold luxury brands like Hourglass and Murad, which are all doing pretty well.
.
Anyway, here’s a HUGE congratulations to Vicky, who has been one of my favorite people since I first came across her almost a decade back. She’s come a long way from selling her engagement ring to start a small company that dreamt of bringing to life an ancient book of geisha beauty rituals.
.
There is an empathy, an elegance, a positivity that Vicky radiates, which makes her beautiful inside and out. And that’s been Tatcha for me – a company with a beautiful soul. Unilever, make sure you preserve that soul. We are watching you.

PS: And you’d damn better not mess with my Water Cream or Rice Polish. Because then we shall REALLY have a problem 🧐😡
