- Tucker 48 (1948-1949)
The Tucker 48 was the brain child of Preston Tucker, a car fanatic and entrepreneur who came up a design and modifications that were way ahead of the game. He set up a massive factory
and briefly produced his cars in Chicago. iOnly 51 cars were made before the company folded due to negative publicity of possible fraud. Indeed, the funding dried up due the negative reporting from the news media.
Only 51 of these were produced before Preston Tuckers dream ended on March 3, 1949. Post war the "Big Three" American auto manufacturers hadn't produced a new design since 41' so people were longing for something different. Tucker introduced a water cooled aluminum small block flat 6cyl engine to the rear of the car, like Porsche did 15 yrs later. His car got disc brakes, four wheel independent suspension, fuel injection, the location of of all instruments within arms reach, seat belts & a padded dash board. One of it's most recognizable feature, was of the 3rd headlight up front, also known as the 'Cyclops Eye". The centre light would turn with the steering wheel at angles greater than 10 degrees to shine light in the cars path around corners.
Speculation exists that the Big Three car manufacturers were behind the push to destroy Tucker because of his many innovations and threat he posed to their business.
A Securities and Exchange Commission investigation proved all charges were baseless and led to a full acquittal for Preston Tucker. There was a fantastic movie made about this....well worthwhile. Preston Tucker & Robert McNamara were the two men most responsible for car safety & innovation as we know it today.Tucker was a man way ahead of his time & he should never be forgotten.

- MG Metro 6R4 (1985-1986)
It is fantastic to look back at some of the crazy cars that have graced our time but the Metro 6R4 has to be up there with some of the maddest cars ever. It was built to take on the fearsome Group B World rally series that had evolved from Group 4 in 1982. Group B, went on for four years and its history would be embedded in the minds and myths of race fans for years.
The MG Metro 6R4 (stood for 6-cylinder, rally car, four-wheel-drive) was completely different in every way from the humble road going Metro and it bore only superficial cosmetic resemblance to the city car. The rest of the mid-engine slingshot, based on a steel-tube spaceframe, had no more to do with the mainstream Metro than Mystic Megan has to do with your future
