  • Today’s mood, inspired by the grace and resiliency of the federal representatives of Congress who got scapegoated by the psychopath in the White House. I see your light and I embody it. Let’s ignite a peer based volunteer driven prosocial macrolevel community and resiliency building movement by taking San Francisco State’s critical reflection practice and spreading it through coffee shops using social currency. 1000’s who matter internalized this peer practice thanks to Dr Steven Cochrane and the student run Community Involvement Center he founded in 1984. Let’s rally these resilient leaders to pass along this fun small group practice and spin a World Wide Web of prosocial leadership. Stop looking for one point of leadership. People target points. Let’s build a wave we can all ride - a Tsunami of collaborative growth mindsets who are deliberate thinkers and make up a team, in body, mind and spirit.

⠀
Our Green New Democratic Deal reduces Ontario’s Greenhouse Gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. When we succeed, it will be because we worked together.⠀
⠀
The transportation sector is the largest contributor to Ontario’s GHG emissions. Addressing the climate crisis will require a drastic reduction in emissions from passenger cars, freight, and mass transit.⠀
⠀
🌱 The majority of transportation emissions comes from personal passenger vehicles. How can Ontario best reduce emissions from passenger vehicles?⠀
⠀
🌱 Ontario is home to a thriving auto and auto parts manufacturing sector. How can Ontario become a leader in manufacturing the next generation of low-emission vehicles? ⠀
⠀
🌱 People in Northern Ontario must travel longer distances for services, like seeing a medical specialist, under harsher winter conditions. Public transportation in the North is not always a viable option. In this context, how can Northern Ontario best reduce emissions from transportation? ⠀

  • But doesn't plastic biodegrade... Eventually?

How long do you think it takes regular plastic to decompose? One hundred years or maybe a thousand? How about never.

Most petroleum plastic takes a thousand years to break down, but even then, it won’t decompose into useful nutrients, it just turns into infinitely smaller pieces of plastic, which act like magnets in the water, attracting toxic substances.

So why doesn't plastic decompose?
Because microbes - those tiny but essential organisms that convert decomposed matter into vital nutrients - turn their nose up at most plastic, they simply won’t consume it.

Are you afraid of the forest? 🌳🌳🌳
*

#SGI4Climate: The Soka Institute for Environmental Research of the Amazon was founded by Dr. Daisaku Ikeda in 1992. It focuses on environmental education based on the SDGs and the principles of coexistence and reverence for life. *
*
The Soka Institute is situated near Manaus, Brazil, at the point where the Solimões and Negro rivers meet, in the middle reaches of the Amazon River.
Despite living in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, many inhabitants of Manaus are reluctant to enter the forest and are unaware of its ecological value. *
*
The institute was built on land that had lost much of its original forest cover. It carries out research on the conservation of the global ecosystem, preserves seeds of native Amazon tree species and undertakes reforestation initiatives. Since it opened, 20,000 trees of over 60 species have been planted to restore the forest ecosystem around the institute.
In cooperation with Brazil’s National Institute of Amazonian Research and other local partners, the institute contributes to the development and promotion of knowledge building and environmental education programs. *
*
The institute’s objectives are: 🌱to establish a reserve for conservation and protection for the sake of future generations; 🌱to restore degraded areas; support environmental education; 🌱become a refuge for wild flora and fauna; 🌱and to develop environmental conservation projects with a focus on improving the quality of life of local people. *

  • Have you heard of the the Green New Deal? You have now 😆✅🎶 It is a bold plan by a USA think tank about transforming society in an orderly way and its set to create the greatest debates of all time - as awareness and change will come with it. It is already transforming the climate fight in the United States and around the world, but what exactly is it?
.

The Green New Deal is an initiative launched by the seemingly indefatigable Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in February and the first step to getting a real shared understanding of the impacts of the climate problem and what's necessary to actually solve it. .
A key principal of the Deal is that it is too late to incrementally move away from fossil fuels - rather, we have to move dramatically and immediately and that is the big deal. Zero emission means zero oil, natural gas or coal. .
The Green New Deal is a long shot, but it's a clever way to mobilize people who care, the only actual published plan so far and it's bringing real debate and a better understanding of what is at stake to our streets. .
You can really help by sharing it far and wide. More info in bio link and here > https://ekko.world/216961

A presto 🇮🇹🌍

  • This picture from the @extinctionrebellion Summer Uprising totally captures the pain many of us parents - and grandparents - feel. That feeling that it's all slipping away, that we are giving our children a broken, bruised, furnace of a planet that won't sustain them. We are on track, according to the best available scientific evidence, not for an increase in temperature of 1.5c (the temp the @ipcc says is safe) or 2c but of 3c or 4c by 2100. The arctic ice is melting, heatwaves and forest fires are already more extreme and deadly, and we are only at the start of global heating. We back @extinctionrebellion's call to ACT NOW. This is an emergency and our children's futures are on the line. Governments MUST ACT for the sake of our children. Image from Extinction Rebellion Lewisham (via Twitter).

"ACTION NOW✊🏽 Amazing pic by @oceanic.elizatbeth! « All of us can make a difference. Use your voice, your iphone, your social media, your lifestyle choices, your time and talents.  People, communities, cities, businesses and organizations are taking action. We are need to fight like our lives depend on it — because they do😃 » ⠀⠀⠀
Among what you can do, a new study says we all should start planting trees, at least 1 trillion of them, and fast 🌳🌳🌳
⠀⠀⠀
That may sound like a lot of trees, but the Earth has room for their gnarled bows and branches. In the new study that excluded cities and agricultural areas, researchers found that the planet has nearly 3.5 million square miles (9 million square kilometers) to spare for trees. Such newly planted trees could cut carbon (a part of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere by nearly 25%, bringing it down to levels not seen for nearly 100 years, the scientists said.
⠀⠀⠀
The team's calculation shows clearly that forest restoration is the best climate change solution available today. Once these trees have matured, they could store 225 billion tons (205 billion metric tons) of carbon, or about two-thirds of the 330 billion tons (300 billion metric tons) of carbon that humans have released into the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution began.
⠀⠀⠀
The unfolding greenery could help limit Earth's warming climate. The most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report found that adding an additional 3.8 million square miles (10 million square km) of forestland could limit climate change to 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit (1.5 degrees Celsius) by 2050."
