I couldn't find any Video from the "Wild Birds Tour" but I came across this performance from 1984 when Peter Murphy formed Dali's Car with former Japan bassist (the late) Mick Karn. The duo only recorded one album together, "The Waking Hour," from which "His Box" is taken.

WHO: Ray Charles
WHERE: Houston Music Hall
WHY: Tour to promote the Ray Charles retrospective box set "The Genius of Soul"
During the last decade of his life, I had the great honor of spending a good deal of time with musical legend Ray Charles. We would speak for hours, sometimes days on end, discussing a plethora of subjects... for magazine/newspaper articles to liner notes to various side projects he asked me to assist him with.
Mr. Charles, as I would call him, was also a personal musical hero. My father played Ray Charles' music all through my childhood. My dad never took me fishing or to ball games, but he took me to see Ray Charles at Rockefeller's in 1973 and 1975. Mr. Charles' music was one of the few things my late father and I bonded over. I told Ray about this once. .
In 1999, shortly before my dad passed away -- after we finished a phone interview -- Ray asked to speak to my father. "Put him on the phone, I gotta tell him something," he said. They chatted like they were old pals. Apparently, Ray sang my praises to Earl Sr. I had never seen my dad so happy, after he hung up. I think Ray really got a kick out of it, too.
The interview in this post took place in early-1991. It's a tiny portion of Ray and I talking about, in particular, being considered a legend. I would meet up with Mr. Charles later in July of that year when he came to the Music Hall for two unbelievably stunning shows (on the same night).

WHO: The Power Station + Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
WHERE: Southern Star Amphitheatre at Astroworld
WHY: The Power Station "Summer Tour '85" + OMD "Crush Tour" 1985
When The Power Station's lead singer Robert Palmer bowed out of the band's debut tour, remaining members Andy Taylor & John Taylor plus drummer Tony Tompson recruited Michael Des Barres to handle vocal duties.
Spandau Ballet was originally scheduled to go on the summer arena outing with The Power Station, but they just played a single date in early-July and had to pass on the rest of the trek after a member suffered a mishap.
Fortioustiosly, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) were available to open the shows. The band were in the middle of their tour to promote the album "Crush." I was at OnlyMusic Magazine and assigned myself a major piece on OMD. I met up with OMD main men Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphries backstage at Astroworld's Southern Star Amphitheatre. It's a friendship that lasts to this day.

Out of the dozen or so times I've seen the Stones, this will remain my favorite show of the band's. Tickets for the show sold-out in three hours. How do I know? I worked for Top Ticket, one of the first computerized ticket companies (in Greenway Plaza). In fact, we printed this very ticket!

#ontheturntable "Juju" - Siouxsie and the Banshees, Vinyl LP, 1981, Polydor Records UK
My desert island Sioxsie and the Banshees, hands down (no pun intended). It's definitely a close second to "Kaleidoscope," which was the first Banshees album I heard. It was a musical revelation.
I got ahold of my first copy of "Juju" about a month before the Banshees played Babylon (now Numbers Nightclub). It was a stunning performance. Sioux and the Banshee boys performed several songs from "Juju," which was wondrous.
That's when my love affair with The Banshees began. Fortunately, I had a job that allowed me to see the band a number of times, around the world, and to meet and speak with them over the years.
P.S. It has always sounded more incredibly brilliant on vinyl.

#ontheturntable "Results" - Liza Minnelli, produced by Julian Mendelsohn and Pet Shop Boys,
Vinyl LP, 1989, Epic Records UK
I had to go online to purchase this album in the UK. It took a couple of weeks (via Royal Postage) to get to me, but the wait was worth it! I once owned a copy of "Results" -- which, for all intents and purposes, is a Pet Shop Boys album with the divine Liza Minnelli singing the lead vocals -- on vinyl (a promo copy, in fact) when it was first released in 1989. It was lost over the years, but I've always had the CD and all the vinyl 12" remixes in my collection. I really wanted it back on vinyl, and thanks to Ebay all my dreams have come true.
If you are a fan of my old pals Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe (aka Pet Shop Boys) you really should own this album or at least give it a listen on Spotify of Amazon Prime.
If you are a PSB fan I'm sure you've heard their version of "Losing My Mind" (a Stephen Sondheim song from "Follies"), originally the B-side of "Jealousy."
Liza covers PSB's "Rent" (from "Actually") and "Tonight Is Forever" (from "Please") and her take on the PSB classics is sublimely brilliant. .
"Results" -- A+

- MEMORIAL TUESDAY. ..
The summer is officially here, a time when I get even crazier than crazy.
I truly feel like an octopus being pulled by all 8limbs .
All that I do is never alone .
So many people love and support me , and have loved and supported me all these years .
I have an amazing team that surrounds me as well as an amazing community that sustains me .
I love and appreciate you all.
Close friends and new acquaintances, you know who you are .
You may wipe my tears, hold my hand, answer a phone call , make a phone call, like my posts, hang a poster, take pictures for that post or poster , come to my events , eventually come to an event , shared an invite , donated some cash or food, and dragged a friend along to do the same .
THANK YOU .
There is not enough hours in the day to thank those who need thanking enough or show gratitude for those who deserve so much gratitude, this is my very meager attempt to just say you are appreciated so much every day.
Even when I slack off in telling you .
Which is often I’m sure 😬
I may not have a cute pic of you , but I will always have a beautiful snapshot of you in my heart .
THANK YOU ALL ...
Have a wonderful summer.
Hope to see you soon!!
