  • 🤔 Do you have a disc herniation? It sounds scary right? I get it - for a long time the medical field placed the blame for back pain & issues on them. We also commonly hear stories of friends and athletes attributing their back pain 🤕 or disability due to them.
__
🤔 But what if I told you that the majority of the time herniations heal on their own without surgery?
__
🤯 In a big 2017 study (Zhong 2017) across multiple countries researchers found that approximately 66% of lumbar disc herniations fixed themselves w/o surgery
__
😓 What if you are part of that “unlucky” third that it doesn’t heal on?
__
📌 Well, we know from research (Brinjikji 2015) it’s possible to have a herniation but no back pain - in fact herniations are super common in ppl w/o pain
__
📌 In a sample of people w/o back pain 30% (yes almost a third) of 20 y/os had a disc bulge. The prevalence increased ⬆️ with age to where 60% of those aged 50 y/o and 84% of those 80 y/o had a bulge on their MRI. Just to reiterate… these people 💥DID NOT💥have back pain. This illustrates you can easily have a disc herniation and be pain-free
__
📌 Is this to say disc herniations can’t cause problems? Nah, they can but rarely is the disc herniation the sole source of why you have back pain. In fact, bc of this & since we now know about the varying effectiveness of spinal 🔪surgery many spine surgeons -will not- perform surgery just for back pain.
__
📌 Typically, unless the herniation is profound enough to affect your reflexes, cause weakness or significant numbness in your legs they won’t perform surgery. Even then, in many cases numbness and sensory symptoms can be fixed w/o 🤗 it. I’m a good example – I had significant numbness in my left leg/foot & have largely resolved it.
__
📌 Takeaway? Just because you have a disc herniation doesn’t mean you are stuck with or will have back pain

  • Fat loss. We all want it. But we also want cupcakes, right?! Can we have both??⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your amount of muscle mass will be the single biggest factor determining your overall caloric burn and ability to burn, i.e. lose, fat. The more muscle you have, the better results you're going to see! Muscles are ALWAYS working, so they burn calories all day, every day. And, muscles make for efficiency when it comes to fat storage and utilization. It's a WIN-WIN. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The food you eat needs to support your weight training.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most people are eating a diet high in carbohydrates/highly processed foods and unhealthy fats that is also too low in protein and good fats. Even if you think you're eating enough protein, you probably aren’t. And if you're not measuring or tracking your meals in any way, we suggest that that is a great place to start. Awareness is key! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You may even be surprised to hear that many people actually aren’t eating ENOUGH calories, or the correct balance of macros, to support their gains. It’s not about starvation. It’s about fuel; the proper amount of protein, carbs, and healthy fats to get your body working efficiently.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're going to devote time to working out, let's make sure you're being as effective as possible and eating properly to support your hard work! And if you're going to eat a cupcake, make sure you put those calories to use in the gym, and always be aware of how it may effect your body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you would like more tips on achieving results, check out our free guide “Why Your Current Fitness and Diet Routine MAY NOT Be Working For You” or slide into our DM's and set up a nutrition consultation where we can talk more about cupcakes and protein shakes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Goal setting + accountability = success ⚡
.
Another post without veiny arms & suffering face expressions, but if getting in phenomenal shape is your goal, keep reading 👁️👁️ because what I'm about to describe can be used in any undertaking.
.
I remember some bits of a fairy tale from childhood about a little girl who started walking without having a clear destination. After wandering for some time she came across a very weird path - "The Fast Road". On this road she met all kinds of super weird people. One group was watching a stone for days, weeks and months waiting for it to move. Obviously without #success One man was desperately cleaning his place, which was already cleaner than the Mr. Clean ads. Other people were also doing completely useless stuff, but all of them were convinced that they are doing something very productive and important.
.
Now thinking about this children's book I think it actually holds a very powerful lesson. See 🤔 a lot of people confuse progress with movement. Some people spend countless hours in the gym and never get in shape. Some people work countless hours for their business but never get a real break. Some people desperately try to be more likable and still have no true friends. Why is that? In my opinion it's because people fail with their #goalsetting strategies, or they don't have any. 😨 .
As your Uber Eats delivery needs your post code to bring your #food and Google Maps to know what's the fastest road. So you need a clear #goal and a proper plan if you want to succeed at something. If your delivery guy doesn't know the exact address, you might never get your food.( Hopefully it's #salad anyways🧐)
.
If you don't set specific #goals you will never see #progress 🥺 "I want to get in shape" is not a goal, it's a prerequisite for a lot of work and disappointment. "I want to lose 10 kg of fat by the end of summer by making a proper #nutrition plan and #training program which is going to help me lose 1 kg per week". This is a goal! 🐺 Now write it down, find out what kind of knowledge or help you need and start NOW. Check your progress weekly and stay focused. Soon you'll be a new person 😉 Love you all ⚡ @iamvladimirx
