  • We visited the "Salts Flats" in January, when they were still ... underwater? (photos 8–10) ... which, tbh, I had no idea is even a thing. Surprise!
.
Here's your geology lesson: idk why all the salt's there, but it is. Dinosaurs and aliens, probs. The salt is packed and hard and rocky, and a handful crumbles like ... hard, dried ... something. Harder than sand.
.
🤷🏻
.
After a few SUV donuts on the salt because I am a grown-ass woman who does what I want, we explored some BLM dispersed sites for future adventures.
.
Months and months ago, Tiny decided this would be the summer of adventures. And, said Tiny, if we were ever going to keep track of all the adventures we'd had and all the adventures left to adventure, we'd need a list. So, months and months ago, we started a list, which has grown and grown and grown—when school got out, we aspired to ~60 summertime adventures. Now, halfway through break, we've checked off ~20 ... and added another *ahem* 40.
.
On our list are hikes and campgrounds and bumper cars in "Lost Bake Us" (which will have to wait because someone's still not quiiiiiiiite tall enough [it's me] [jk it's Tiny, but I'm short too] [the donor was 6'3"; I tried]) and beaches and playgrounds and splash pads and pools and games and recipes and and and ...
.
I've never done or seen ... so much. In a lot of ways, I have no idea who I've become—like, I camp now? What?—and I am (usually) thrilled to be in this season of parenting and life. We're finding out what does and doesn't and might work for us. What we're learning helps make most every new adventure better and more accessible, which is important for our family.
.
And you know what else? I don't care. I have so very few fucks left to give anymore, about what anyone else thinks or thought I was or did or should or shouldn't be or do or or or. That helps, tbh, and all the uniquely silly and curious and clever wonders of five-year-old wanderings are just plain magic on top.

  • The Monsoon Season begins to set in. A fascinating time to film to see how the landscapes comes to life and transforms.

  • A huge thank you to everyone who attended the BLM Eastern Colorado RMP Public Meeting last night in Golden. Here are some pictures from the night where our Alison speaks with John Smeims - manager of the planned revision; the Wild Connections crew talking to Keith Berger - the Field Manager for the Eastern Colorado region; Alison talking shop with one of the BLM’s GIS specialists, Gordon Bowman. About 25 members of the public attended, many advocating to protect wild lands and wildlife! If you didn’t make it and still want to, there are two more meetings coming up on July 22 and 23. The live version of this picture features hail, bird song, and my softly muttered incredulity. Every choice in my life has propelled me to this exact moment in this specific place. I am drowning in awe and appreciation. I have spent my life enjoying national parks but this one always feels like it enjoys me too. It’s good to be back, Glacier.

I spent the windiest night sleeping in the Sube. It felt like I was on a ship. Then the sun rose, the rain fell, and a double rainbow raced across the sky. Storms chased me all day. I was the grinniest, drippiest, hApPiEsT hiker on the trails. Every day is a good day but this was an insanely great day. #ProtectGlacier
