@pullphoto and @nikkismith Nikki:

As a white, cisgender, and heterosexual dominant society, we regularly hear that "the outdoors are for everyone". I used to think the same. Now, since I came out as trans, I find these amazing places a little more difficult. While these beautiful spaces remain the same, the people in and around them are not always as accepting of me or others who don't fit the typical outdoor narrative.

In order to travel to climb, hike or take photos, I have to stop in places to get gas or food that are not used to seeing a transgender person. I've been harassed on hiking trails, openly made fun of in stores and restaurants and felt completely alone and afraid while trying to use the restroom at a truck stop bathroom on the way to and from outdoor trips

We need to remember that while some feel safe in the outdoors, many others do not feel welcome. They are not comfortable or completely accepted. We need to move past statements saying the outdoors are for everyone and instead, ask: how can I help make the outdoors more accessible to others?"

  • Sooner or later, shorebirds will eventually work their way to close range. It was just a waiting game as this splotchy-plumaged shorebird was hunting around a pond in their nesting territory so I just waited while making myself appear as small as possible. They’re definitely not uncommon but their habits and antics are always fun to watch any day. 🌞

  • Sunset on Half Dome from Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park. Had two cameras going, a canon 5dsr and a canon 5d Mark IV. I should have brought my third camera as well as the views are just spectacular.

  • Just posted my comparison of the Canon EF 70-200 F2.8 II and III. These are my thoughts and opinions based of my use of both lenses. Like most Canon products, the specs can be underwhelming until you actually use it. The V3 does sound like an incremental update but in my opinion is well worth switching even from the V2. It's not a necessity but you definitely won't regret it if you do. Am open to a discussion! What do you think about the V3? Do you think it's worth it? Link to the video is in my bio! Or search @samguw on YouTube.
