  • Morning flows - hadn’t worked on alien pose (the zigzag wheel) in a while. It felt good! I always enjoy revisiting postures after a while and noticing subtle nuances.
What are you working on in your practice at the moment?
💛

  • I’ve been learning about connection in the parenting book I’m currently reading. It talks about the child’s brain and the process of its development — and how connecting with them in their times of distress actually has a physiological impact on their brains. Instead of the classic “time out” or lecturing, punishing, scolding when your child has a meltdown, when you offer connection first, you allow their nervous system to get to a calm state so that they are more receptive to the lesson you are trying to teach them. It’s funny because I don’t have that many mom friends and I almost want to recommend all my non-parent friends to read this parenting book because of how much it’s teaching me about our early brains, about myself, about connection with other people and how powerful that is on a cellular level. Connecting with others is a fundamental part of our existence. It’s so fascinating!! I’ve been loving learning more about this, especially because of my job where I am constantly interacting with others in sharing the physical aspects of a spiritual practice.
Anyways — it’s super interesting. Let me know if you’ve read any cool books around that topic that you’d like to share! The one I’m reading is called No Drama Discipline.
❤️
Happy Monday :)

  • Yesterday I practiced at @lighthouseyogaschool and then came home and continued my practice at home during my baby’s nap. I focused on hips, core and some press work (not pictured).
My next ‘practice goals’ are leg behind the head and handstand straddle press but when I set goals, I set them as something to work towards but I have no attachment in achieving them in any specific amount of time. I like taking it slow, and I like everything to feel good in my practice without forcing anything. I have my whole life for this practice. ❤️

  • I have been realizing the value and importance of play, now that I am taking care of a one year old. Play is EVERYTHING. It is how we learn early on, and it is our direct experience with the world. I take my baby outside everyday where I watch him excitedly absorb the surroundings, stop to observe little details and learn new skills. I feel like as we get older, the importance of play appears to be undervalued by society, because we’re so busy with our ‘real world’ - there is nothing more real than being outside, with nowhere to go, fully immersed in the present.
Go outside and play today ❤️🌟

  • Early morning hollowback-ing in the streets of Soho. It’s currently raining on me, in a dress, no umbrella and I love the feeling of rain (happy accident because I still have not learned to check the weather). I taught my 9 am class and I am feeling so grateful and inspired today.
How’s your Monday going? :-)
