  • Congratulations to @priyaparker on the release of her @TED talk: 3 Steps to Turn Our Everyday Get-Togethers into Transformative Gatherings. I draw a lot from Priya’s work. We share a passion for facilitating difficult conversations, and for gathering around what matters.

Priya is a systemic thinker who brings creativity, boldness, and depth to the gatherings she facilitates — large and small, personal and political.

This TED talk is an appetizer, and I hope it will lead you to order a main dish right after. Watch Priya’s TED talk and learn more about her book, The Art of Gathering, at priyaparker.com. #TED2019

  • Settling back in at home after my first trip to Australia. 🇦🇺 I’ve enjoyed incredible meals, I’ve seen landscapes that were just breathtaking — from the air, and from the ground. It was absolutely wonderful.

  • Love enjoys knowing everything about you; desire needs mystery.

Love likes to shrink the distance that exists between me and you, while desire is energized by it. If intimacy grows through repetition and familiarity, eroticism is numbed by repetition. It thrives on the mysterious, the novel, and the unexpected. Love is about having; desire is about wanting. An expression of longing, desire requires ongoing elusiveness. It is less concerned with where it has already been than passionate about where it can still go. But too often, as couples settle into the comforts of love, they cease to fan the flame of desire. They forget that fire needs air.

  • I was recently invited by @growmarketing to lead a conversation about relational intelligence in the workplace with 25 C-level female executives. We talked a lot about how the narratives we carry around relationships inform who we are at work and how we function on a team.

A board, a team, a household — all of these relational systems need people with different ideas, different experiences, and different skill sets. We need both the practical and the visionary. Both the immediate thinkers and the future planners. Those pushing for growth and those advocating for stability. And rather than them fighting each other, and trying to convince the other, understanding that they are functional because of this complementarity. They need each other.

The strongest teams and the strongest relationships and the strongest marriages and the strongest partnerships are the ones that can identify complementary traits and turn them into something that is thriving rather than threatening.

When you allow yourself to be curious about the differences between yourself and others, you allow yourself to grow.
