Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Stay on the path,
And enjoy the view!
.
When driving into Yosemite Valley you may see stretches of ground blanketed in brilliant shades of purple and green. The flowers within these large clusters of color are Gray's Lupine. Help protect wildflowers in Yosemite by staying on the path and leaving flowers untouched.

  • “Admit it, you look up to me.” - Bob Belcher
.
Did you know male red foxes are considered doting and indulgent dads? While the pups are young, the father hunts every day, providing a food delivery service to the den for the cubs and their mother. Once the pups have matured, dad will play and roughhouse with them, while teaching survival skills like how to hunt, scavenge, and escape predators.

  • “Blow it out your Tubenburbles!” - Rose Nylund
.
There she blows! Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It was named in 1870 during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition and was the first geyser in the park to receive a name. It is a highly predictable geothermal feature, and has erupted every 44 to 125 minutes since 2000. Did you know: The water that erupts from Old Faithful is around 204 degrees Fahrenheit. Have you witnessed Old Faithful in person?

  • Camping. It’s in-tents…
.
Sometimes spending a day in the wilderness isn't quite enough to truly capture the feeling of a special place. Sure, you see some amazing views or go on an unforgettable hike. But to get the full experience, you yearn to see the dark, starry skies. To listen to the yips of coyotes. To watch the sun rise on a silent, dewy morning. Camping in the great outdoors transforms a regular old road trip into an epic experience. Where do you like to go camping?

  • Does a bear sit in the woods? Yes. Yes, they do.
.
Well, not all the time. Bears tend to spend the day roaming a large swath of territory. Who has time to sit all day when there’s food, shelter, and potential mates to find? If you do come across a bear sitting in the woods, best not disturb. Manners.

  • Located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers in the states of West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland, Harpers Ferry is about more than just one date or individual, but a diverse number of people and events that influenced the course of our nation's history. • “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” -Ferris Bueller
.
Sometimes it’s nice to slow down and enjoy a park. Don’t worry about seeing every attraction. Instead, find a place you like and have a moment, or two, or three. What are some of your favorite parks spots to soak in the moment?

  • I said good day, sir!
.
Don’t challenge otters to a breath-holding competition. An otter’s lung capacity is 2.5 times greater than that of similar-sized land mammals. Sea otters have been known to stay submerged for more than 5 minutes at a time. River otters, however, can hold their breath for up to 8 minutes. The increased time underwater improves otters’ opportunity to sense prey and forage for food. Umm...you otter not challenge!
.

  • Ascending to 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as an icon in the Washington landscape. An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S.A., spawning five major rivers. Subalpine wildflower meadows ring the icy volcano while ancient forest cloaks Mount Rainier’s lower slopes. Wildlife abounds in the park’s ecosystems. A lifetime of discovery awaits.

  • Who’s here for the sheep thrills?
.
Located in southern Indiana, the Lincoln Living Historical Farm at Lincoln Boyhood National Monument, depicts a typical farm of 1820s Indiana. It incorporates some of what is known of the Lincoln farm and activities which were a common part of the Lincoln family's daily life. Today, visitors can see people doing the same things the Lincolns did when they lived here. During the course of each day there are a number of chores that have to be done, such as chopping firewood, milking the cow, and feeding the horses, chickens, sheep and cow. What a thrill!

  • “No sight is more provocative of awe than is the night sky.” - Llewelyn Powys
.
Natural dark surroundings are part of the fabric of many national parks. Just as we keep historic structures intact and preserve surrounding landscapes as they looked during a given era, so, too, do we recognize the value of the natural lightscape — night conditions free of human-caused light. Experiencing the night as it was in older times helps us imagine Teddy Roosevelt sitting on his porch in his later years, Aldo Leopold hiking under full moon light, Carl Sandburg crafting poetic words amidst natural beauty, or hardscrabble homesteaders finding respite in the prairie sky after a long day's work.
