  • Constellation Counting with my nieces. Last week I had the chance while camping to test the new A7RIV - the new 60 megapixel full frame powerhouse by @sonyalpha. The camera was just released this week and it is amazing in low light & high contrast scenarios, like this one with dark shadows & bright highlights. Shooting something that can handle weather and straddle the line between medium format in a lightweight expedition worthy body is remarkable. It's small but can make print sizes way beyond its weight. #oldschoolvan #nightsky #sonyalpha

  • Where Land meets Water - I’m always amazed by the interaction of our living seas and it’s shores. Documenting the lifespan of plastic and it’s impact throughout the US from rivers to seas. More to come... #planetnotplastic #ocean #surf #lava #aerial #sonyalpha 📷 #petemcbride

  • Wake of nature’s work. The humbling power of an avalanche leaves an old aspen tree forest brushed over and rooted like toothpicks. After roughly two decades of drought in the Colorado River basin, this record snowpack is welcome, but it didn’t depart quietly. #avalanche #nature #humbling #mountains #watershed #runoff #sonyalpha #aerial 📸 #petemcbride Thanks for wingmanning Steu.

  • These were the red, white and blue fireworks I watched on the 4th of July last year — the mountain above my town in flames. Thanks to this slurry bomber and many, many more who helped keep our town from burning last fourth and giving even more reason to celebrate in our homes this year. The 2nd and 3rd photos are of Basalt mountain now - coming back to life. #wildfire #firefighters #grateful #happyfourthofjuly 📸 #petemcbride

  • #Powell150 | Stars stripe over the Green River as a moonrise paints the cliffs near the confluence with the Colorado River. When John Wesley Powell passed through this region 150 years ago, he famously wrote: "We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknown river to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls ride over the river, we know not." I often wonder if that unknowing enabled bliss or sleepless worry. Either way, we can celebrate this river with detailed knowledge of its noteworthy nuances thanks in part to Powell’s courageous journey. #HappyIndependence. @americanrivers #moonlight #nightsky #nature #happy4th 📷 #petemcbride

  • Recent TEDx Talk (bio link): Photography is just one of a four-legged story stool that I work from. Film is 2nd, Writing 3rd, and Public Speaking is 4th, but in some ways it is the most relevant because it connects to people the old fashioned way — directly, with humor, honesty and passion (maybe even a handstand). This year I’ve been privileged to share my work at schools and universities to stages @natgeo, @worldeconomicforumplus corporations and non-profits. “Do you get nervous?” Many frequently ask. Yes, always, but that is how I know I care about the stories I’m sharing. My latest @ted xtalk at @hopsculture #dartmouth is now online -- link in bio. #speaking #story #butterflies #handstand #gratitude

  • The elusive wave: Every few years, the cosmos align, mixing snow pack and cold runoff to form the endless, soulful wave in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The exit can be exciting, the passing trees challenging, but the long rides on the "American Nile" are always memorable and humbling. #ColoradoRiver #surfing #chasingrivers #water 📸 by #PeteMcBride @pedromcbride

  • Solstice Smooch: On this longest day of the year, let’s celebrate our long necked friends — giraffes which amazingly have seven vertebrae like us —just much larger. Despite their graceful beauty and evolutionary marvels like leathery tongues that can munch acacia thorns, giraffes are facing unprecedented population drops throughout Africa from habitat loss, fragmentation and poaching. Follow @giraffe_conservation to learn more, get involved, and help them stick their necks out to understand what is happening to these lofty, wonderful creatures. Happy #WorldGiraffeDay #giraffes #solstice #conservation #Africa 📸 #petemcbride
